. Don't Forget VMware Tools It is very important that you install VMware Tools in the guest operating system. With the VMware Tools SVGA driver installed, Workstation supports significantly faster graphics performance. The VMware Tools package provides support required for shared folders and for drag and drop operations. Other tools in the package support synchronization of time in the guest operating system with time on the host, automatic grabbing and releasing of the mouse cursor, copying and pasting between guest and host, and improved mouse performance in some guest operating systems. The installers for VMware Tools for Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, and NetWare guest operating systems are built into VMware Workstation as ISO image files.
Install Vmware Tools Freebsd
(An ISO image file looks like a CD-ROM to your guest operating system and even appears as a CD-ROM in Windows Explorer. You do not use an actual CD-ROM to install VMware Tools, nor do you need to download the CD-ROM image or burn a physical CD-ROM of this image file.) When you choose VM Install VMware Tools from the VMware Workstation menu, VMware Workstation temporarily connects the virtual machine's first virtual CD-ROM drive to the ISO image file that contains the VMware Tools installer for your guest operating system and you are ready to begin the installation process.
Freebsd 10.2 Vmware Tools For Macos
Hello, I am new to FreeBSD but having been using Linux for quite some time. I made a VM of FreeBSD 10 but am having issues installing the VM Ware Tools. Here is the error I receive:./vmware-install.pl: Command not found I thought that this was a perl script so I attempted to add perl via 'pkg install perl' but received a message that it was not found. I then searched for perl and saw that version 15.20 seemed to be the latest so I installed that but there was no change. Any assistance would be very appreciated.
VM Ware doesn't seem to post what the requirements are in this instance. Thanks, Mike.
1st party isn't a mess; it's easily fixable and I fixed most of it myself. (I didn't bother with vmxnet for obvious reasons, though I should have.) VMware is obligated to fix and maintain VMware Tools for FreeBSD 10 by their own policies, but continue to refuse to.
I have tried multiple times to get them to fix it, including explaining exactly what changes need made in detail. They could have at least gotten it half-working in less than an hour two years ago. Which is exactly why I have no intention of releasing my work publicly.
I know full well VMware will hoover it up and claim it as their own. If you want tested, working first-party tools lean on your EMCVMware sales person to cut me a check or get support to do their job. No, it's not. 'The whole damn thing had to be rewritten' is several worlds away from 'I had to update some primitives and fix clang build errors.' The fact is simply that VMware is a bunch of lazy assholes. There are public patches they could have stolen (which don't work at this point) but they couldn't even be bothered to do that.
Even when they were pointed to them directly. But if it was that bad, I couldn't have fixed it with absolutely no support from VMware and just the source from the tarball. Looked at pricing lately? They want their software fixed, believe me, they can afford to pay for it. (And I don't take vExpert or NFR licenses.). Well, I wouldn't go that far. It's a mess, but it's workable.
About 5 years overdue for an overhaul, minimum. But I'm not going to invest the time and effort in making it not shit though.;P I'm right in that it's not maintained and doesn't even work without hacking because they can't get their act together. Not even that. They are fully capable of getting their act together. Certainly they could do a better job than I with it. They just can't be bothered to do their fucking jobs, ever.
It's pure laziness and not giving a fuck. They got handed a fix on a silver platter and just snored right through it. Edit: Also, holy shit, just read your username correctly. Can I be the Duke of AM/PM?;). I have had zero issues with what I'm using. What specifically are you talking about that causes panics? Well then you aren't running the official tools (which will not even install without recompile) or you aren't running 10.0-RELEASE.
One, official tools won't install on 10.0 period without recompile. Two, there are kernel function and behavior changes from 9.x to 10.x that cause VMware Tools to have bad behaviors.
Three, they are affected by several LLVM bugs and inline ASM issues (see vmmemctl/backdoorGcc.c for fun.) Item three is going from memory, so I'm probably forgetting some broken ass behavior in vmmemctl or LLVM. Or more likely both. I know the one patch - I think ogris.de - builds still. But like the rest, it explodes at the slightest provocation (e.g. SCTP, ZFS, pf, libalias IIRC.) Doesn't help matters that LLVM base itself is still so immature the GCC shims will be with us till at least 11-RELEASE. Either way, as I said, I burned enough time on it and got enough migraines from useless assholes at EMCVMware ^WEMC?
They would need to open their overflowing pocketbooks before I'd even consider working on it again, forget contributing to open-vm-tools. Much like Sun, they think 'open source' means 'everyone else's time is ours to steal.' You get the idea.
